A sabbatical journey of discovery: patient safety.
This is the second in a series of reports to share key learnings from my sabbatical. In spring and summer of 2005, I took a three-month journey through Scandinavia, Europe, Ireland and the United Kingdom to observe innovation in nursing service delivery, in particular, nursing-led services; to explore outcome measurement as it relates to nursing services; to look at patient satisfaction and imp...
متن کاملTargeting Surveillance for Zoonotic Virus Discovery
We analyzed a database of mammal-virus associations to ask whether surveillance targeting diseased animals is the best strategy to identify potentially zoonotic pathogens. Although a mixed healthy and diseased animal surveillance strategy is generally best, surveillance of apparently healthy animals would likely maximize zoonotic virus discovery potential for bats and rodents.
متن کاملA Journey of Discovery: Orthogonal Matrices and Wireless Communications
Real orthogonal designs were first introduced in the 1970’s, followed shortly by the introduction of complex orthogonal designs. These designs can be described simply as square matrices whose columns are formally orthogonal, and their existence criteria depend on number theoretic results from the turn of the century. In 1999, generalizations of these designs were applied in the development of s...
متن کاملThe Long Journey to Interatrial Block Discovery
To begin, I feel it is important to point out that before our publications on interatrial block starting in the mid-1970s, a number of papers had already discussed, with isolated cases or short series, different aspects of so-called blocks at atrial levels and specifically of interatrial or intraatrial block (IAB) [1-8], that is the topic that we will comment in this paper. Although there is so...
